In a scene in the basement, where the real Johnny is talking with his lawyer, he doesn't have the mole on his right side.

That mole is significant, because it's the only thing that's different between him and Dante.

Reviews

I was expecting much more from this JOHNNY STECCHINO, because I though it was a comedy with Roberto Benigni I watched some years ago in the TV, but it isn't, and to be honest, it's much worse than I could ever expect! Its humor is too dated and it's so incredibly naïf, and ridiculous at parts, that I just can't imagine how can it have a 7/10 score here in IMDb!

"After Dante (Benigni), an ordinary school bus driver returning from his extraordinary adventure in Palermo, his takeaway is that people there is dead serious about lawfulness, as he can personally vouch that filching a banana can incite vehement public censure. The joke is broad but also smart and trenchant levering at the Mafia-ridden Sicily region.

Yes Bengini is a master of comic timing and plasticity. And the script is a fantastic use of the comedy of double-entendre.

Great movie. Watched it as a teen first and seen it several times after.

One of the best comedies of Benigni. A fable, grandiose, based on a game of misunderstandings and misinterpretations.

Roberto Benigni, who went to achieve international stardom with "Life Is Beautiful," plays two roles in this comedy. The story is about an innocent man who is dead ringer for a gangster-informant-in hiding.

...for see it.

Before Roberto Benigni became a household name in the States, he directed and starred in this totally wacky movie about an ordinary man mistaken for a mobster while looking for a woman (Nicoletta Braschi) in Sicily. I guess that mostly, "Johnny Stecchino" is a big excuse to be silly, but it's definitely what Benigni does best.

Even though Roberto Benigni is very popular on this website, I doubt that many people know more than one movie of the man. Sure, everybody has heard of "La vita è bella" before, but if you ask them to name another one of his Italian movies, I'm pretty sure they can't.
