Reviews

This is one of my favorite classic TV shows. Although it is always compared to Bewitched (of which I'm also a big fan) and many think of I Dream of Jeannie as a not-as-well-done knock off, I think that both have their strengths and weaknesses.

Of course this belongs to an era when producers took the silliest of ideas and treated them like the lost works of Shakespeare (a premise that could arguably be made for today's shows as well). But in fact this entry is not "typical" for the era, to the contrary, it set the bar and defined how this formula could be done (then) and would be done (now).

I'm sure there were many guys who dreamed of Jeannie. What would you do if you had your own personal genie and unlimited wishes?

No one thinks it's odd when not one member of Jeannie's family turn up for the wedding??? What am I not understanding about this?

I am writing this in 2015 after re-watching the entire collection for the second time. I was first introduced to this show by my mom who watched it in her younger years.

If Tony and Roger are astronauts there's no way they'd be Majors or even Lt. Colonels and certainly not Captains.

To tell you the truth, I was never a fan of "I Dream of Jeannie" but I did see the reruns as a child when they showed reruns on local stations. I love Barbara Eden as Jeannie and Larry Hagman as her master.

TV's I Dream Of Jeannie was pretty much just a simple-minded one-note joke that got real stale, real fast. With the Jeannie character being just a glorified boy-toy Barbie Doll, I guess that she was created to somehow fulfill the wish of everyman's secret sexual fantasy.

This show still makes me laugh after all these years. In fact, I prefer it to some of the rubbish that's on TV now.
