Goofs

When Chad Lucas (Audie Murphy) leads the posse after the outlaws who have abducted Warren Stevens' girl he has a rifle holstered on the right under his saddle with the butt of the rifle next to the rump of the horse.

He uses the rifle to fight off Apaches in some subsequent scenes.

After the Apache attack Warren Stevens hands him his rifle and he mounts the horse rifle still in hand.

When the scene switches, the rifle is back in the scabbard/holster.

In one of the following scenes, the group ride up to a campfire used by the outlaws.

The right side of Chad's horse can be clearly seen in a fairly close shot, and the rifle is not in it's holster, and Chad does not have it in his hand.

Whoever on the set was responsible for seeing that Audie's gear was ready for the scene neglected to check this very important item.

Once the posse starts to climb up the mountain the rifle is once again safely ensconced in its receptacle.

When Sheriff Lucas shoots the bad guy with the money and he falls off the cliff, you can see a cushion pad bounce back up briefly in the camera frame.

When the men on horses bring down a water tower, it hits the ground, spitting out water from the top, indicating it was full.

When the train hits it seconds later, it breaks apart, but is completely empty.

After a violent robbing, a posse is created to pursue the cutthroats. As a Colorado sheriff called Chad : Audie Murphy, and a suspicious deputy : Denver Pyle along with a gambler : Warren Stevens, chase a band of train robbers who have abducted a woman, Joan Staley, an old flame of the obstinate marshall.

One of Audie Murphy's last westerns. It's the usual assembly-line job most of whose more spectacular moments are stock footage but it's all perfectly competent, well-acted and in Joan Staley has a robust leading lady who can convincingly ride a horse.

Having never seen this (as one brought up on westerns) I have to say that older age hasnt helped. It starts off well enough knowing that the deputy sheriff is helping the villains but then descents into a farce as the sheriff leads a posse into the desert chasing those who have also robbed the town bank.

Gunpoint is directed by Earl Bellamy and written by Mary and Willard Willingham. It stars Audie Murphy, Joan Staley, Warren Stevens, Edgar Buchanan, Denver Pyle, David Macklin, Nick Dennis and Royal Dano.

Edgar buchanan insured this film would be a bust from start to finish ... why he was cast in such oaters is a mystery to all that follow good westerns ...

As much as I love and respect fellow Veteran Audie Murphy, I never understood why he accepted roles in some of these " C " Westerns. I know it was in the 1950's and we would go watch anything at the picture show, especially Westerns.

You don't pound nails into a horse's shoe with a loaded gun!

"Gunpoint" is a grim but entertaining Audie Murphy Universal western. A competent supporting cast makes this one even better.
