First of all, this is not a show for everyone. Even the actors have admitted in interviews that the acting requirement was minimal.
This was the first series to highlight emergency medicine as well as in a limited way bring the exceptional military field medicine to the public's attention. It offered a variety of rescue scenarios and also showcased the bravery of firemen.
Emergency is one of the best tv shows that has depicted paramedics. There aren't many other firefighter/paramedic tv shows that I would actually say did something to advance outside of hospital care.
I don't understand how or why anyone likes this show. The acting is so deadpan it needs a defibrillator.
The show is old but still holds up. The show focuses on the responses firefighters make and the people they deal with: no love triangles and no off duty drama which is the nonsense modern shows seem to deal out.
I remember watching this show as a first run series on NBC growing up. in those days we only had 2 television stations, one was PBS and the other had NBC, CBS, and ABC programming.
Thank you to the cast, crew and guests. I grew up watching this and found I enjoy watching it again.
Emergency! was a fantastic show and a lot of current shows pale in comparison to it.
For those who have Netflix, let them be aware that they can download instant watching of all seven years of Emergency! Not all episodes can be watched instantly, some have to come in the form of a DVD, but most of the episodes can be watched instantly at least as many times as their particular plan allows.
