In Jack Valliant's elections headquarters there's a poster with the Hebrew word for "Jewish".

Though those are the correct letters of the word, they're written left to right instead of right to left (hsiwej).

Mark Wahlberg and Kyle Chandler take a Long Island Railroad (LIRR) train to Montauk from Grand Central Station.

Grand Central services Metro North Trains, not LIRR.

LIRR leaves from Penn Station.

When we are first shown Paul Andrews's body, (at the crime scene), it is very clear that he has been shot in the chest.

When Taggart later goes to Todd Lancaster's house and interrogates him about Andrews, Todd says that he was "shot in the head".

We see a banner that marks the Chinese new year, however the film takes place around October 29th 2012.

The Chinese new year is at February.

The cheque given towards the first and the last installment of the hiring fees of Billy Taggart have the same number 984523706.

- PLOTThe secret "contract" that the mayor was trying to hide was Articles of Incorporation for Rochway, Inc.

These would have been public records filed with the state and very easy to discover.

When Billy and the mayor are in the mayor's office where he first hires Billy to investigate his wife, the decanter and the glasses on the table and the blanket on one of the couches all change position repeatedly between shots.

Reviews

With the on-going awards season, it's not surprising to see last minute hopefuls vying for a lasting impression. Amongst the hordes, BROKEN CITY sticks out like a sore thumb, or in this case, a broken limb resulting from haphazard neglect.

Broken City is one of your typical winter releases that the studio wants to dump out as soon as it can. Not all winter releases are bad some of them end up being winners, but this is average stuff that I forgot about as soon as I finished watching it.

And I don't really have that much intelligence to insult. Yet another film that was obviously written by someone who does nothing but watch movies, probably only really bad movies like this one.

Cop Taggart is cleared of murder when evidence is suppressed but forced to quit. Seven years later he is asked by the Mayor to investigate his wife, but when her apparent lover is found dead, Taggart investigates further, at which point the suppressed evidence becomes relevant.

Is it the city that is broken or is it the people that live in it? Is that even a difference?

"There are some wars you fight and some wars you walk away from. This isn't the fighting kind.

I love a good film noir. Unfortunately, this wasn't it, but not for want of effort by the actors.

I remember the outstanding movie "a beautiful mind" starring Russell Crowe for which he could have won the Academy Award, meaning he's an extraordinary and super talented actor. He wouldn't have been able to win one for "Gladiator" hadn't he been so good.

A cops kill a guy on the street in NY. Surprisingly he's brought to trial.
