Trivia

Diminutive Austrian character comedienne, trained under Josef Danegger. On stage from 1918 and in films from 1929, she was noted for her tomboyish personality and gift of gab. Her screen personae encompassed eccentrics and naives, friend of the heroine or servant -- all possessed of an undeniably feisty attitude. The quality of her work diminished considerably after the war, as she restricted her screen acting to appearances in schmaltzy Heimatfilms and second-string comedies.

The post-war film offered Lucie Englisch a fullness of work again, but her performance was reduced to two-dimensional figures, the movies itself left much to be desired of quality. Especially the new arising film with a regional background and shallow comedies became her new field of activity.

Thrilled by the fascination of acting she attended acting lessons and was engaged on different stages.

When the film began to talk it marked the starting shot of a great film career. She impersonated as on stages before native figures with a loose tongue and with it she became a very popular folk actress.

The actress Lucie Englisch had to be earning for the living of the family as well after the early dead of her father. Therefore she worked as an extra at the Badener Stadttheater during her school days.

The 30s became a very busy decade where she normally played naive employees in support roles.
