Horses

Biography

Horses draws on the members' various DIY, discordant and punk/hardcore pursuits and East Coast folklore to create a unique brand of rock and roll storytelling. Using minimalist instrumentation and the dynamic aggression of punk rock, soul, and Touch and Go-era indie rock, Horses play music that is simple and honest, but also deliberate and calculated. Drawing on a songwriting tradition that spans from Bruce Springsteen to Joe Strummer to Woody Guthrie, the band's songs speak to an underlying desperation and discontent that runs through the most honest music of the last century. Ultimately, Horses connects to the songwriting traditions that stand the test of time. The band formed in Halifax in 2005 - all of the members were born and raised in Cape Breton. Honest songwriting and good shows quickly established Horses as one of the mainstays in the Halifax independent music scene.
