Biography

Danzel (november 9th 1976, born as Johan Waem), started his professional carreer by becoming finalist in Belgians Idols competition, 2003. When he was 15 he and his friends started the pop-rockband “Scherp Op Snee” or “S.O.S.” in which he sang and played the bassguitar. Apart from that he was a backing-singer in the “L.A. Band”, which did a lot of gigs with many famous Belgian artists. He plays the guitar, bassguitar and piano and, being an allround musician and entertainer, he also composes and writes his own music and lyrics. After Idols, he came in contact with Jaco Van Rijswijk, a producer who had some big hits in the 90's with Natural Born Grooves. Jaco introduced him to dance-music. Before Danzel always had been making rock-music. Late 2003, recordcompany N.E.W.S proposed them to make a remake of a song by the Black & White Brothers called “Pump it up”... That's how it all began... People who haven't been living on Mars for the last 10 years know that “Pump it up” became a smash-hit and was signed to all major labels in the world and sold over 3 million copies worldwide!! A sample of his version of “Pump it up” was even recently used by the Black Eyed Peas in a remix of their smash-hit “Pump it”!Danzel has toured the world several times and has done an enormously amount of shows all over the globe for audiences which sometimes exceeded 200.000 people!! Over the past 10 years he had several hits like: “Put your hands up in the air”, “My arms keep missing you” (with Dj F.R.A.N.K), “You spin me round”, “What is life” (with Belgium's top Dj Regi) and so on... He got an Eska Award in Poland, an MTV-Music award in Russia, several gold records for the sales of singles and albums and so on... Since 2009 he is also touring in Poland with a live-show, which takes his “entertainment” value to a higher level, and is by viewers called as “one bolt of energy”. In 2010 he and his recordcompany decided to slightly change the sound into a more poppy sound, which resulted in cooperating with other producers and releasing “Under arrest” which became a hit in Belgium and other European countries also. In 2011 & 2012 he worked together on tracks with some of Belgium's top DJs Dimaro and Laurent Wery and released a brand new single, titled "“You Make Me Happy,” with DJ Rebel, who is known from reaching golden status with “Cuba” in 2011, and his cooperations with Jessy and Abie Flinstone.
