White-maned German star character actor of Huguenot ancestry, first on stage in Bielefeld in 1929 and in the 1950s prominent in cantankerous or headstrong film roles. He gave arguably his best performance in the title role of Sebastian Kneipp , as the priest (1821-1897) credited with the invention of water therapy. From 1947, Wery was also a prominent radio actor with the Bayerischen Rundfunk. A street in Munich is named in his honour.
