A True Story of Murder and Family in Small-Town Kentucky

By the lights of absolutely everyone who ever knew her, Katie Autry never harmed a hair on a dog's head.
She came from a tiny village in Kentucky.

This book is a dark journey into the evil that can be inflicted upon those who are helpless to prevent it. Katie Autry may have had many bed partners, and yes, she worked as a pole dancer, but no one deserves to die as she did, repeatedly stabbed in the neck with a pencil, covered with hair spray and set on fire.
We were interested in this book because my son attended Western when it happened. We purchased it a few years ago, but loaned it and it was never returned.
VERY INTERESTING SUBJECT. I KNEW A LITTLE ABOUT IT BEFORE I READ IT.
I was greatly disappointed in this book. I am an avid true crime reader, and being from Kentucky, I had not heard of this crime and was intrigued.
I guess I always knew that having a ton of money does not necessarily grant you happiness. This book really solidifies that in my mind.
In May 2003, Katie Autry, a freshman at Kentucky Western University in Bowling Green, was raped, tortured, and burned alive in her dorm room. After a Keystone Kops investigation by the campus police, who though having little experience with serious crime, inexplicably decided to take control of the case rather than turning it over the city police department, two young men, Lucas Goodrum and Steven Soules were charged with the murder.
IT KEPT ME INTERESTED THROUGHOUT. IT GAVE A GOOD BACKGROUND ON ALL THE MAIN CHARACTERS.
Well being a Kentucky resident all my life...i can relate to the way of life.
Van Meter uncovers a microscopic overview of the case in Kentucky at the University, but; relegates to the reader a conclusion that each might draw a different viewpoint. It is obvious to one who read mysteries and / or Murder novels; or has been within that field of Law Enforcement, that a lot of unanswered questions are raise.
You can get a synopsis of this book from other reviews this is my opinion. I am from this area and had heard about this book and so decided to splurge and buy it for my NOOK.
This story should be very interesting to anyone who lives or did live in KY, and also to others. It has been some time since reading this book but I do remember it kept my attention to the very end.
This is hands down one of the best books I have ever read. The author, William Van Meter, returns to his hometown to investigate the brutal murder of Katie Autry and the people involved.
William Van Meter takes too long to explain the cause and effect. Too talkative and drawn out.
The book was received promptly & in excellent condition. I will buy from here again!.
As a Bowling Green native, remembering the story well, I thought I knew alot about the case. Needless to say there was so much more that Vanmeter brought to the reader that only through his research and writing we have come to know.
