This is well written and easy to stay involved with the history of the 8 plastic product she chooses. Great educational piece of how we got to live in plasticville.
Good stuff.
Interesting and informative. At times I feel that she went perhaps too in-depth on certains topics, but overall this book sheds light on the diversity and ubiquity of plastics.
Makes you somehow care about things like the history of the plastic chair...fascinating, enlightening, and important for anyone who cares about environmental issues and our impact on the planet.
Excellent book; talks about real things young on, and how we use to miss them; It tell us about issues that matter to all of us.
I read this book over a year ago and found that I am constantly referring to it in conversations, especially about recycling. Because I had not reviewed it before, I am doing so now.
I was sucked in to this book from page 1. I'm a huge fan of Bill Bryson, and this author reminded me in ways of him: taking a seemingly simple topic and revealing its true complexity via a myriad of apparent rabbit trails, but bringing it all back together in the end.
Loved reading this book! Very informative, loved how the facts about plastic that I did not know about.
This is my first time to review a book on Amazon, and Susan Freinkel's lucid, sparkling prose inspired me to the act.In a work that is both breathtakingly comprehensive and compellingly detailed, Freinkel constructs a succession of lenses with which to inspect this troubling but essential component of our reality today.
A cute idea. It's a little bit all over the place.
Seller sent the book in a timely manner. The price was decent as well.
It's hard to write a book about plastic that's both laudatory and critical, factual and fun. But here it is!
Eventhough early plastics have existed long before America started to put them to use in a high volume. Unfortunatetly I like most people want to make reality the old days when toys and stuff were made out of wood, metal, clay, porcelain and other creative ideas.
As a sailor I've been horrified by plastic litter on remote and otherwise pristine beaches of the coasts of British Columbia and Alaska. "Plastic: A Toxic Love Story" explains how the plastic got there and why it's so difficult to keep it away.
Susan Freinkel's, "Plastic A Toxic Love Story" is a well written, thoroughly researched, most interesting look at the good, the bad and the ugly facts about plastic. The first chapter details the history of the invention of plastic and describes the various types of plastics and there uses.
