Enjoyed the read, but not a classic.
Red Geraniums recounts the experiences of a school teacher turned photographer at a time when photography was not seen as a fitting occupation for a women. Later, the protagonist, Kate, enters into a later-life marriage and becomes a farm wife--a role she had always been expected to play.
A rewarding read on many levels!Determined to set her own course at a time when women were expected to fulfill roles of domesticity, the main character, Kate, opens her own photography studio in a small rural town and becomes the town's first businesswoman.
What a wonderful story--I spent most of a day reading, I couldn't put it down without finishing it. Truly compelling, a very real slice of life for women in the early 1900's.
