I recently became interested in the history of Germany and looked for this as an introductory text. This book is written in an interesting and catchy manner (for a history book anyway) and will keep you entertained for hours.
This is the second in the Traveller's History books I've read this year, and I still don't quite get the link between the history and the travelling. It's really a concise history, with little consideration given to readers actually travelling through the country.
I will be traveling to Germany soon and I wanted to learn about the history of the areas I will be visiting. This book is perfect for this.
I expected this book to give a brief history of the larger cities in Germany. It turned out to be a history book with too much detail.
A good, consise history of Germany, but can be a little daunting to read. Reads more like one of my lawschool textbooks than a history of a country.
This book is part of an series of books of brief histories meant for travelers but which are readable by anyone wishing to obtain a general understanding of a country's history. The great thing about A Traveller's History of Germany is that it is concise.
