Reviews

Brief, lively, very readable book. Yet still provides plenty of substance about the origins and contradictions of the mysterious alternate universe called Denmark.
Nice design, content, and layout for this book. As a Dane living in Texas, I learned a lot about my roots.
I enjoyed Patrick Kingsley's thoroughness and choice of topics. especially the chapters on Danish education, the New Nordic cuisine, Muslim citizens' issues, and the welfare state.
This book is for anyone interested in Denmark either for finding out what Danish people are like or their culture.
This is a very informative book. It presents Danish background information and covers much about contemporary Denmark and its people.
I haven't read the book yet. My initial disappointment is that the book is bound upside down.
From the short blurb in the Wall Street Journal that alerted me to this book, I expected a somewhat humorous list of topics, like a dictionary, with a short entry for each. But instead it is a more serious investigation of several aspects of Danish life, such as education, cuisine, design, politics, immigration, television, etc.
Product receivced promptly. In Good shape.
For my Danish friend. Hasn't arrived yet, but I'm sure she will get a kick out of it.
Like (I imagine) many of the readers of this book I was inspired to learn more about Denmark by a combination of glowing international reports on its commitment to egalitarianism and the sombre and complex brilliance of 'The Killing'. More a collection of extended magazine articles than a book which must be read from page 1 to page 180, this thoroughly entertaining book is superb for those looking for an introduction to several key aspects of modern Danish society.
Fantastic book on Danish history and contemporary issues. Great for Danes and a perfect quick intro for visitors who want to be in the know.
