Mort Sahl is the pioneer and still the champion of stand-up contemporary satire. As Woody Allen attests, he is the forerunner of today's comedians. This book evokes reflection and laughter.

Fine work, and a must read for all Mort fans, and those interested in JFK.
I liked Emily Arsenault's new novel of psychological suspense,THE ROSE NOTES. The story is set in two very distinct and well realized time periods.
It seems that "heartland" is written more like a jazzcomposition, than an autobiography. mort knew lots of famous and powerfulpeople, mentioning some of them, particularly Hugh ("call mehef") Heffner.
First, this is not a written book; it's a transcribed one. Lotsa stream-of-consciousness & digressions that left me with the impression that Mr.
Sahl is a true original and one of the only political comedians to aim his cannons at all sides of the political spectrum. Unfortunately the Kennedy assassination unhinged him, he hooked up with Jim Garrison and he never really made it back into the mainstream.
Mort Sahl must have written this book when he was had a burning desire to get the words on paper. It's a book that I could not put down.
