Marie McDonald's book, Ka Lei, is a significant addition to the effort attempting to preserve Hawaiiana. McDonald looks at this art form (she is comfortable using the plural, "leis," although others will say that is a nonsensical term, since there is no "s" in the Hawaiian language) through how lei were used in everyday life, both historically and in modern times.
