"Soar" has been my road map to the world of Sales! Lee Salz lays out a brilliant foundation that is helping me personally pave the way and kickstart my career.
This is a useful book for those who are considering making a change and want to determine a fit with a new sales venture/where to hang their hat. Also great tips to show your difference among building the framework for your sales career in logical ways with great support.
In sales, as in life, there are some concepts that can be communicated in a few words or an entire chapter. Some days when I am having a tough day, all it takes is a reminder from something in the Table of Contents to get me on task.
As I imagine most sales manager do, I read alot of books and search the web for insightful tips and strategies to assist in creating sales plans, teams and revenues. For me, Soar had fresh ideas and strategies even though the book was published in 2007.
As a number of the other reviews indicate, this is an insightful, practical guide to sales. I've read many sales books over the years, from Neil Rackham's Spin Selling to Michael Bosworth's Solution Selling to the Miller Heiman books.
I previously posted Salz's ideas for sales people looking for work The rest of the book is as brilliant. This is a book which truly architects a salesman' s success, despite their manager or lack of a manager and little help from marketing.
There are many books written on sales and the importance of selling or specific techniques of selling; such as focus on benefits, not features, build a relationship first, get yourself motivated, etc. This book is the first I've read that provides a roadmap to sales written from a practical, down-to-earth perspective.
Lee Salz in his book Soar Despite Your Dodo Sales Manager hits the selling nail right on the head! With a clear writing style that speaks directly, and expertly, to the reader, and plenty of graphics and visual aids to augment his points, Lee details in no uncertain terms what today's sale professionals need to know: how to win at this lonely, challenging profession even when your boss does little or nothing to help you, or even keeps getting in your way.
All of us who have been in sales can appreciate this book. My sales career started at 15 when I sold Fuller Brush door to door and I progressed through the years to work in telemarketing and sell life insurance.
Dodo notes on how this book is both painfully true and insightful;1) Too many (dodo) sales managers and (dodo) companies give reps neither the training nor the individual coaching they need to succeed.2) Too many reps blame their lack of success on these dodo managers.
"I've read dozens and dozens of books on effective selling. I've attended numerous sales training programs.
The title is goofy, and the cover is too. Don't let that fool you.
Salz's years and years of experience in sales shows through in every chapter of this book. He provides a practical guide for anyone involved in business, not just sales professionals.
This book was recommended to me by a friend in the sales field. Since I am not a professional salesman myself (I'm a senior manager of a highly respected international consulting company), I was skeptical as to whether I would find value in the book for myself.
The best book I've read about the selling process. Having been in sales for over 27 years, I wish this was out when I first started.
