This is a really powerful collection of poems with matching illustrations. There were two poems called Miss Stone and I'm The One that drew me to this book.
Amazing Faces is a collection of sixteen poems that celebrates the rich diversity of the lives of American children. With beautiful watercolor portraits, this book has a great mix of emotions with Jude Mandell's "I'm the One," a sad boy is not accepted by the in crowd, and Pat Mora's "High in the Sky," in which a child enjoys solitude under the stars.
I originally bought this book for a teacher as an end of the year gift. She LOVED it!!!
Just as everyone has a story to tell, every person's face portrays a unique blend of feelings, history, and background. This new anthology presents children with 16 poems by an acclaimed group of poets and authors, each expressing a compelling set of circumstances and emotions.
In this contemporary yet timeless collection, acclaimed anthologist Lee Bennett Hopkins brings together sixteen selections that reveal through poetic word imagery the common universal emotions and feelings we all have, whether they be happy, excited, wishful, proud, sad, or lonely. The poems taken as a whole reflect the great variety of people in our society, bringing children of today into focus as they meet with childhood experiences and also interact with adults in their world.
This book is full of gorgeous, expressive pictures that bring the poems to life. Children's poetry anthologies are always so much more enjoyable because the illustrations help to better understand and feel an emotional connection to the poem.
A collection of poetry about the nuances of a person's face might at first seem hard to comprehend, but so, too, are the feelings behind our expressions for many autistic/Asperger children. This book will be a wonderful asset for teachers who have increasingly more of this student population in their classrooms.
The experiences portrayed by the poems and illustrations strike a balance between specificity and universal truths.
Quite wonderful. The illustrations are not a perfect fit to my taste, and 16 poems is not enough, but I do think this has a place in every school.
This book is an amazing compilation of poetry edited by Lee Bennett Hopkins. The illustrations are amazing!.
This collection of poetry includes poems about diverse backgrounds and issues such a bullying. This would be an excellent addition to any elementary counselor's resources.
Lee Bennet Hopkins does it again! He has brought together poetry about all different cultures from around a city like NY or Dallas, TX together to form a warm and welcoming community.
Great collection of popular poems that really capture human spirit. A real uplifting read.
Forgot to mark this one even though I read it a while back. Beautifully done.
This book is a great collection of poems that really reflect diversity and America. Diversity in race as well as the range of emotions in human experience, both are on display in this collection.
