This is a delightful book about the natural history of Boston's North Shore. It takes you from the forests to the shore and spans millions of years of geological change and evolution.
I picked up this book not knowing entirely what to expect. The title to me seemed just like one of the current trend of very specific, scientific titles for novels.
Kristina's book allowed me to sit in my living room and explore many of my favorite haunts on the North Shore. As a Science Department Head, I was intrigued by her melding art and science together in both her illustrations and her descriptions.
I found this book utterly fascinating, both the clear, natural writing and the warm drawings. Great for kids, too, but heck -- I'm an adult, and I sure learned about my environs.
I was hoping for a little more depth about the great marsh. I feel it's a good book for elementary school children to learn more about the environs and for that reason I have given it to a local school for their library.
