This is a great little book! Lots of great quality images of mummies from around the world.
Parents/guardians/teachers beware: I accidentally came across this book in the library. The photo on the jacket was attention-grabbing and I thought it might be about children who had been mummified as part of their culture's post-mortem care, or about 'Ice-man' type accidental remains that have been discovered.
I can remember as a kid going to see the King Tut exhibit when it came to Seattle in the 1970s. My older brother read everything he could on how mummies were made and then tormented (and fascinated) me with details about how they removed the organs, or how they pulled the brains out through the nose.
Recommended Summer Reading Informational Text There is nothing that captivates a MG reader more than mummies. Mysteries of the Mummy Kids will surely keep my readers spellbound.
This was an interesting book about mummies of children found around the world. Looking at some of these pictures and reading how they died is really sad.
When you hear the word "mummy", what do you think of? For me, Ancient Egypt comes right to mind, but in Mysteries of the Mummy Kids I learned about all kinds of different mummies from all over the globe.
Quick--name one other culture that has mummification as part of it's rites/rituals than Egypt. .
