Some of my favorite movies star Joseph Cotten. When I discovered he wrote a book, I became curious and bought it.
Joseph Cotten is another actor who has had a more interesting career than you realize, as he recalls his work with likes of Welles, Hitchcock, and Selznick. He spent a lot of time in theater as well, and goes back and forth between film and stage.
This is two books in one. Part one is written in a flamboyant, dandified look back at Joseph's life until tragedy ended his first, turbulent marriage.
This review is of the original hardcover edition, published in 1987.Joseph Cotton was a dependable leading man who appeared in numerous films from the late 1930s on, continuing to act into his 80s.
I always looked at Joseph Cotten as an interesting, humorous man who would have been a delightful companion. Vanity Will Get You Somewhere does nothing to dispel my admiration, not just for the actor, but the human being.
I LOVE this book! One of the best Autobiographies I've read!
I bought the hardback version of this book when it was first published in 1987, and I still have that copy. I was at the time a big fan of Joseph Cotten's films, and I still believe he was one of the best, most natural actors of the 1940s and 1950s.
This was one of the best autobiographies I have ever read! For any Joseph Cotten fan or classic movie fan it is a must.
