This is the first book I've read from this author after having purchased it from her at the LA Times Festival Of Books earlier this year. It is a book that grabs your interest from page one and leads you to wanting to keep turning the pages to find out who is behind the string of "mysterious" murders a year after the death of a friend of some of the characters.
Jenny Hilborne, in this psychological thriller set in the English Cotswolds where secrets can hide and murder is rare, focuses attention quickly on a pitiful widower, a carelessly arrogant executive, a sadomasochistic fiend, and a self-critical amateur sleuth and their families and friends. The plot is clever, the characters believable, the writing is clean and crisp with fun bits of English jargon and descriptions that tempt the senses.
This is the 4th book I have read from Ms. Hilborne and I was not disappointed.
I really enjoyed this book; probably my favourite of Jenny Hilborne's. I read some each night and loved the setting of the book (Oxfordshire/Cotswolds area in the UK) because I was familiar with a lot of the places.
I wanted so much to like this novel as I am familiar with the author who writes terrific blogs on writing. I read the first few chapters 3 times hoping I may have missed something but found there were too many characters introduced too quickly, none emergin as a main character or someone I cared about.
I love the book stone cold it was exciting and I give it four stars I enjoyed it very much.
Another book on how only someone who experiences some of the others similar experience can truly understand each other and bond.
I love good, taut mystery writing that moves to the rhythm of its characters while also painting setting & circumstances that offer up the full atmosphere of the experience. Jenny Hilborne does all of that, and more, in 'Stone Cold.
Another brilliant book from jenny, this is a must read book.
Stone Cold is a complex, plot-driven story of power, corruption, and deceit. Hilborne does a great job of fitting the pieces together a little at a time, allowing the story to unfold while keeping readers guessing.
"Stone Cold" is a great read. I couldn't put the book down, I was hooked from the very beginning.
Two executives who used to work for Charles Dean are murdered - is there a connection. Mara Mann, who works for Dean determines to find the truth.
Jenny Hilborne has a fresh mind of mystery, intrigue, and good old fashion murder. Her book did not hold back and I was enthralled with the characters from the beginning until the grand end.
