James Carville has to be the best political strategist of my lifetime. In this book, he more than addresses the obvious.
Typical James Carville. This is an easy read which you can get thorugh in one afternoon.
THe wealthy and super wealthy in the U>S. are doing extremely well.
I have read a few other books by the author, James Carville. I am currently reading this, and so far, it is outstanding.
James Carville's theatrics aside, he makes a great case with a ton of data to back up how the middle class has been slowly dismantled, and why the country cannot thrive without it.
James Carville can be a most insightful political commentator, and he is well known for using humor to keep from sounding strident. But this political screed never achieves much insight or much humor.
Do not consider myself very political but this was an interesting book with many graphs to support the arguments raised and it made me definately want to vote Democrat. The Democrats support the middle class more than the Republicans.
Carville, Greenberg (and Shrum, their colleague). Do you remember how they have been pro-free trade for so many years?
This is a thought-provoking discussion of how the Middle Class has been in long-term decline for three decades. The key idea is that recovery from the 2008 Financial Collapse is insufficient as the goal.
The give-away is in the first chapter: Both authors grew up caring about black people to the exclusion of the white middle class, and that's where their passions still lie. They are for the redistribution of wealth, to take from whites and give to blacks, regardless of the class of the whites.
If you're tired of hearing the right-wing amnesiacs and revisionists ranting on and on about "how President Obama's policies are wrecking the country," pick up Carville and Greenberg's It's The Middle Class Stupid! as soon as possible.
I like reading some of Carrville's writings, but he's often simply to much of a one-note song. Democracies, as have been noted for at least two thousand years, tend to crater once the poor people realize that they can vote themselves the rich peoples' money.
It's the Middle Class, Stupid! by James Carville and Stan Greenberg"It's the Middle Class, Stupid!
One of the things I have been pondering is where the money came from to increase the average CEO's income from 30 to 40 times the average worker's pay in the 1980's to 300 to 500 times now. Turns out a chart showing the increase in business productivity versus the change in hourly pay (negative pay versus inflation over the last decade) and it shows that rather than allocate the increased profits among the stakeholders - shareholders and employees, they kept it.
The title says it all. Anyone in this declining United States of America that considers themselves to be in the middle class should take the time to read this book.
