The finishing touches

In "New York Times" bestselling author Hester Browne's delightful new novel, a fading English finishing school is about to get a twenty-first-century makeover.

About Hester Browne

Hester Browne was born in England's Lake District, read English at Trinity College, Cambridge, and worked as a fiction editor before leaving publishing to write full time. She enjoys Scottish reeling, driving, baking, and trawling eBay for estate sale bargains. She doesn't enjoy hot weather, tax returns, or any talent programme where people have to plead to be allowed to juggle flaming chainsaws on national television..

Having read the Little Lady Agency series, I hoped Hester Browne's other books would be as good. This one is good, lots of developed characters, including a baddie to two, and a mystery that gets solved/wrapped up by book's end.
This story about a finishing school on its last legs and foundling determined to bring it back to glory was light and enjoyable, but could have been so much more. The underlying story was perfect for a British chick-lit book but had elements that could have been developed into a deeper more literary novel.
I like books that you can't put down, either because of the mystery/suspense or romance/drama aspect. This book is an entertaining book that would be a good "beach" read.
I have read and adored all of Hester Browne's Little Lady agency books, so I was very interested in what she could do with different characters in a different setting. Elizabeth (Betsy) Phillimore started life as an abandoned baby on the steps of the celebrated Phillimore Academy in London.
Hester Browne's novels are delecious! As a Brit Chick Lit fan, her books are to die for!.
This book is very, very nice. Betsy, the main character, is nice.
I wasn't entirely sure about The Finishing Touches when I first selected it for review from Amazon Vine, but I thought I would give it a try. I love British chick lit, and though I'd never read anything by Hester Browne, I'd certainly heard good things about her books.
Hester Brown's "The Finishing Touches" is set at an English finishing school in London that has seen better days. The school's spiritual leader Franny has just died, and the school's old fashioned ways has left it with just four hopeless and spoiled students.
Hester Browne's Finishing Touches is a warm, cute funny story. Betsy "the marmalade box baby" was left on a London Finishing schools doorstep.
I am a huge fan of British Women's fiction. Sophie Kinsella is one of my favorite authors.
I dearly love to read fiction set in England. It's at times almost a different language.
Without spoilers... baby girl, Betsy, is found on the doorstep of a prestigious London finishing school and enthusiastically adopted by Lord and Lady Fillimore.
I discovered Hester Browne several years ago now with her Little Lady Agency which ended up a fun distraction on a long summer afternoon when I needed it. I ended up reading the other two books in that series, disappointed with the 2nd and mostly satisfied with the 3rd.
Author Hester Brown writes a book about the London Preparatory School for young ladies a.k.
I've read each of Hester Browne's three other previous novels and have enjoyed all of them. The books that she had written were part of series (The Little Lady Agency) and I was excited to see that she would be venturing out on a new story with all new characters.
