Note: This is not a tie in book with characters featured on the show of "Lost". The idea of the book is, the author was on Oceanic Flight 815 which was the plane on the show.
I confess I'd never heard of 'Lost' and picked up a copy of Bad Twin that was left at our Bed and Breakfast. I thought it was written by "Gary Troup", a super novelist who died in a tragic plane crash -- until I Googled Oceanic Airlines Flight 815 and found out the WHOLE THING was fiction.
Bad Twin is like a modern day version of "Clue" except that half way thru the book you find out who the killer is, yet, that is not one of the many exciting twists that this book offers. Easily read, this one will provide a neat little mystery to entice your thoughts, but don't expect to be awestruck by the end of it all.
I bought this book because I'm a rabid Lost fan and wanted to read this so I could say I've seen/played/read everything concerning the show.Pretty early on I figured out there is very little connection between this and the show, or even this and The Lost Experience viral game (which was going on at the time of its release).
I am a huge fan of LOST and I know the place of the Gary Troup manuscript in the series and his relationship with Cindy and all....but this is just a bad book about a bad twin and if it has much meaningful to do with LOST or even remotely with the themes of LOST then it escapes me.
***spoilers*below***Alright, so it starts off interestingly enough, albeit kind of slowly. Gets better, mystery, mystery, travel, whoo-hoo.
Although competently written, this book is not a very good stand-alone, nor does it offer any clue or value for the fans of LOST.
Bad Twin is a well written beach-read type novel. The author does a nice job of keeping it a page turner, as there were many chapter where I just couldnt seem to put it down.
As long as you don't go into reading BAD TWIN thinking you're going to solve the mysteries of the hit television show Lost, then you should be okay. BAD TWIN, on its own, is an intriguing mystery featuring twin brothers--one a bigwig in the family business, the other a ne're-do-well who has gone missing.
It is good to read when the LOST is in midseason, but it doesn't clarify anything about the show.
Even if your not a fan of Lost (who is at this point right?) this book is a story in its own.
This book is poorly written, it has an unexciting plot, and has no connection to Lost. Yes, it mentions a few names that have connections to Lost, like the philosopher John Locke, but thats it.
Storyline wasn't very interesting or mysterious. Has nothing to do with the show "Lost" so don't expect to solve anything.
I get it - one of the writers of Lost wrote a mystery novel years ago that he or she couldn't sell. So, Lost made it happen after all.
I knew this book was a marketing ploy. ''Supposedly'' written by one of the deceased plane crash passengers onboard the doome flight Oceanic 815 in the tv show LOST, this new-found book was, as the story goes, published postmortem for our enjoyment.
