Bradford Dillman calls this fascinating book "That Air Forever Dark," a title presumably referring the circumstances of a group of air highjacking survivors who find themselves in dark jungles ensnared by primitive head hunters; but, from the darkness he finds enlightenment, for it is against this grisly backdrop that he is able to study the psychologies and personalities of his characters and to create appropriate fates for them based on their own personality traits and fears (for instance, a woman who has a fear of water drowns to death, a general who is accustomed to war dies in confrontation). There is an abundance of flash and drama to this novel, but there is also at work the author's life experience and insight into people.
This book is about how people's choices and attitudes determine their lot in life, all in the setting of Apocalypse Now. An exciting read, I read the whole thing in a day and 1/2.
