This is a visual memoir, combining the artist's painting (on Shrinky Dinks, if you remember those), with stories of his childhood. I did not know what to expect from this book, which I ordered because of an interest in the life of his grandmother.
The book is made up of many short stories about the events in Prince Andrew's life while his family was in exile in England. Each story is illustrated by his art.
I loved this book upon coming across it in a local bookstore in Point Reyes Station, California, not far from Inverness, where the author lives. I loved the drawings, and was really surprised to read that the technique was from a childhood past time, using shrink plastics!
The book provides an incredible insight into a period of history, thought dead and buried, that is made very alive and very personable. The artwork is clever, cute and to be cherished.
