Allan is a great musician. His insight about music is very useful to all musicians.
Not much you can learn from this book, you would be better off try to transcribe his music.
Good Store, Will Buy again!!.
An insight into the inner workings of the mind of one of the musical genius' of our time, a must for those wanting to understand Allan's unique approach. He doesn't give away too much but gives you enough to make your own way through conventional harmony the Holdsworth way!.
Though his music may not be for everyone, Allan Holdsworth is one of the world's greatest guitarists. That is reason enough why so few can play at his level, but guitarists in general tend to play much like other guitarists with relatively slight differences in technique, note choice, sound quality, etc, by which we are able to distinguish between them.
While there can be no doubting that Alan is one of the best strummers around and many guitarists owe much to him this book alone is limited in it's use without the video. Also the quality of the enclosed CD is not good.
Another real outstanding book of Allan Holdsworth: It shows a complete insight view of the 10 more used scales by Allan (their favorites)as well as their relation with his enigmatic chord voicings, combining all this material with an interesting chat plus ( On REH Video) a fantastic live performance in studio with Chad Wackerman on Drums, Skuli Sverrissen on Bass and Steve Hunt on Keyboards; where you can see close-up shots of Allan Holdsworth amazing left hand technique...The List of the performed songs is:1.
Seeing as I tend to approach my chordal thinking in a similar manner as presented in this book, I was fascinated to see Holdsworth's thinking on the subject. Interesting concepts for someone who is looking to come up with their own voicings.
