Biography

Barton MacLane graduated from Wesleyan University, where he displayed a notable aptitude for sports, in particular football and basketball. Not surprisingly, his physical prowess led to an early role in _The Quarterback , who appeared with him in six of his films. When not on the set, the couple spent time on their 2000-acre cattle ranch in Madera County, California. For his work in television, Barton has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Was an outstanding college football player at Wesleyan University

He played several musical instruments, including the violin, piano, and guitar. He was a published playwright and author, producing many plays, and starring in Black John on Broadway.

Best known to the television generation as Gen. Peterson on "I Dream of Jeannie" .

He had two children, William MacLane and Martha MacLane.

Was mentioned (not so favorably) in an Allan Sherman song entitled "Oh Boy".

His great-grandfather Henry Joel McLane served in the Confederate 17th South Carolina Infantry in the US Civil War.

Because he so effectively and frequently played heavies, teenagers in the 1940s and 1950s who felt put upon by authorities would say "Dont give me that Barton MacLane".
