An actress, known for _"Coronation Street" . In 2006, King became engaged to fellow actor Jim Alexander who co-starred in several series of Dream Team with her, as well as the Daz adverts. However, the pair split in early 2007. She dated Adam Huckett, a Coronation Street sound technician from April 2007. She gave birth to their daughter, Daisy Mae, on 11 February 2009. King has also stated that she wishes to have more children in the future. She became engaged to Huckett in September 2011 while on a trip to Paris, however, on 16 October 2012 it was reported that the engagement was off as they had split up.

When filming the climactic shootout and escape from captivity, King insisted on doing many of her own stunts. King underwent gun training for filming. Siege Week received some of Coronation Streets best ever reviews.

In "Coronation Street" s Siege Week, King had to act with her hands tied behind her back and with tape covering her mouth, as her character Carla Connor was kidnapped. The scenes of her bound and gagged have been edited into comical remixes on YouTube, as well as internet GIFs.

While dating Philip Middlemiss , he helped King with her studies when she began drama college, and she would help him learn Coronation Street scripts. In November 1996, Middlemiss remarked "When we read them through, Alison plays the parts of all the other characters. Who knows, some day she might even turn up on the cobbles of Weatherfield." King would go on to join "Coronation Street" exactly ten years later in December 2006.

In the 1990s, King was described as a regular on the Manchester party scene while dating Philip Middlemiss , and commented in 2007 about her party animal days, saying "it seems like another life time ago. That gap from 25 to 34 is a long time. Sometimes I meet somebody from 10 years ago and I cant remember anything".

In April 2004, she was chosen as the face of Boddingtons beer, taking over from Melanie Sykes. She launched the ad campaign at The Circle Club in Manchester.

King had a five-year relationship with former "Coronation Street" actor Philip Middlemiss. The pair met on holiday in the Mediterranean, in a Tenerife bar in March 1995, and he encouraged her to become an actress. In August 1996, Middlemiss and King, then 23-years old, were spotted staying at the Dromoland Castle in Newmarket-on-Fergus, prompting speculation that they would get engaged. In November 1996, Middlemiss told Scottish Daily Record of his relationship with King "Ive never been happier. She is a wonderful girl. I love her to death." Middlemiss has said the couple did not break up but drifted apart. In a July 2000 interview, Middlemiss said of their relationship "I was in love with Allie. Shes the only person Ive ever really loved. But she was working in London and I was in Manchester. In another life, if I had been a bus driver and she had worked at the local bakers shop, we would have got married and had kids by now".

She has turned down offers to appear on "Strictly Come Dancing" due to nervousness about the publicity.

Announced in 2015 that she would be taking a break from [ "Coronation Street" ] in order to work on new projects. Bosses convinced her to stay until 2016. She later revealed that she was leaving the show permanently, citing exhaustion and a desire to move on after 10 years playing her character. However, she returned in December 2017, just one year later. The only project she worked on during her time away was [ "Sick Note" ].
